![]() To show the contents of a symlink, use the Linux ls command: ls -l symlink-directory Making a symlink without the -f switch, using a sympath-name that is already in use, results in the command failing. The -f switch automatically removes any conflicting symlink-filepath files or symlinks if there is a conflict. This results in the old symlink’s contents being replaced with the new. To prevent chain loops from overloading the system, Linux limits the number of hops through a symlink chain to 40. In both cases, the target remains untouched. When you unlink an intermediate symlink, you break the chain. When you unlink the head of a symlink chain, you remove only that symlink. The Linux system progresses down such a chain of symlinks to get to the final object. Symlinks can be used in special cases where the symlink points to another symlink. Use of symlinks can simplify the installation or update of an application or file system tree. Soft links make restoring backups easier than doing so with hard links. The Linux system reads the symlink’s file path to reach the target. Think of it as a signpost pointing to where the target file can be found. The symlink (AKA soft link) is a referrer rather than an alias. See the man page for the ln utility for details, particularly limitations on creating and removing hard links. A hard link creates an alias, or an associated name with the same inode number. Entries in a Linux directory associate a name, for example “config”, with an inode number. These describe the details of files and other objects, including where on the disk any associated data is stored. A disk’s file system has a number of control blocks called inodes. It is easy to confuse a symlink with a hard link. symlink - see Chains of Soft Links belowĪlso known as a “soft link” in Linux, the term “shortcut” describes symlinks in other operating systems. What is a Symlink?Ī symlink is a type of special file whose “data” is a path to the name of a file system object, which could be a: Symlinks are a vital tool to file management and organization. This limits visibility in a more complex manner than the file system permissions system permits. Multiple directories each owned by a user can reference a subset of a set of files. Symlinks also provide a way to manage access. Any changes can be made in one place, instead of modifying many copies. ![]() Using symlinks minimizes the necessity of having multiple copies of a file within a system. A symbolic link, or symlink, creates a name that references another file, directory, or other Linux file system object.

However, those are hard to find and still beyond the capabilities of the M1 Mac Mini.Īpple's new Mac Mini can support up to two displays (one with a resolution up to 6K at 60Hz connected via Thunderbolt and one with a resolution up to 4K at 60Hz connected via HDMI 2.0), so there is no point in connecting a display that goes over 6K. Although Liquid Retina 6 held the throne for a long time, technology has moved on, with some 8K monitors from Dell and ViewSonic on the product catalogs. In 2019, Apple made headlines for its release of the Pro Display XDR as it delivered the best resolution, causing Mac users to raise eyebrows. Overall, the BenQ PD2725U is a versatile and high-performing monitor that is well worth considering for anyone needing a top-quality display for their Mac mini. Its slim bezel design makes it a stylish addition to any desk setup. The PD2725U also has a flexible stand that can be adjusted for height, tilt, and pivot, allowing users to find the most comfortable viewing angle. ![]() It also has a built-in KVM switch, allowing users to easily switch between their Mac mini and other computers using a single keyboard and mouse. Regarding connectivity, the PD2725U has a range of ports, including HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C, making it easy to connect to various devices. This is particularly useful for professionals working with design or video editing software, as it allows them to preview their work in different color spaces or screen sizes. One of the standout features of the PD2725U is its dual-view function, which allows users to split the screen into two parts and display different content on each half. This monitor delivers stunningly clear and vibrant visuals with its 4K UHD resolution and 100% sRGB color accuracy. The BenQ PD2725U is a top choice for those searching for the best monitor for their Mac mini. All told, this is a very nice little 4K panel for general Mac Mini productivity. For Mac Mini and other Apple computers, it's USB-C all the way. But, again, that's really only of concern for PC usage. The S2722QC also doesn't have a dedicated DisplayPort interface. And for MacBooks, rather than the most power hungry PC notebooks, 65W of power delivery is just fine. Of course, the USB-C connectivity also means that this is a great choice if you're using this display with both a Mac Mini and a MacBook. What does matter is that the S2722QC has a USB hub, so you can decide what works better for you in terms of connecting peripherals like keyboard, mouse and external storage - hooking them up to the Mini itself or connecting them to the display. But with a Mac Mini display, that's far less critical given the Mini will be powering itself. More expensive monitors can offer over 95W of charging over their USB interfaces. As for connectivity, the highlight is USB-C with 65W of power delivery. ![]() So, this is not remotely a pro-grade display for content creation.īut in usability and broad productivity terms, it still has nice colors and characteristically great IPS viewing angles. Likewise, color gamut coverage is pretty limited. OK, there's only very basic HDR support with no local dimming and just 350 nits peak brightness. The S2722QC also offers decent image quality from its IPS panel. Moreover, you still get really nice, sharp fonts from MacOS on a 27-inch 4K monitor. But then those monitors are massively more expensive. That's not as good as Apple's own 5K studio display or the Pro Display XDR. It's a 4K 27-inch panel, which translates into roughly 160DPI. The Dell S2722QC gives you both at a very decent price. The two most critical things you want for a Mac Mini are pixel density and connectivity. These are simple chores to do but they are easy to mess up. Both the spool thread and the bobbin thread. First, check to see if you have thread the machine correctly. If it isn’t the bobbin then it may be the needle. The origins of this problem are basically the same as the origins of the previous problem. Make sure you are using the right needle, it is inserted properly or that you are using the right needle and it is not damaged. If you have the wrong needle, it is in backward, not fully inserted or if the thread is too thick or thin for the needle these will all cause the bobbin to not spin. The bobbin is a passive part moving only when the thread is pulled from it. Check to make sure you wound the bobbin thread correctly as this could be one cause as well. You can fix this by loosening the screw and readjusting the bobbin tire so that it makes better contact with the bobbin winder. If it does not have the right amount of pressure it won’t wind the bobbin. Then the problem may come from the bobbin winder. Double-check to make sure the bobbin is in the right place. If it is not seated right, it will not spin. The first place to look when this happens is the bobbin’s location. And indeed, if there is a counterpart to the confusion of a library, it is the order of its□ catalogue. These are the very areas in which any order is a balancing act of extreme precariousness. For what else is this collection but a disorder to which habit has accommodated itself to such an extent that it can appear as order? You have all heard of people whom the loss of their books has turned into invalids, or of those who in order to acquire them became criminals. More than that: the chance, the fate, that suffuse the past before my eyes are conspicuously present in the accustomed confusion of these books. Every passion borders on the chaotic, but the collector's passion borders on the chaos of memories. This or any other procedure is merely a dam against the spring tide of memories which surges toward any collector as he contemplates his possessions. If I do this by elaborating on the various ways of acquiring books, this is something entirely arbitrary. Would it not be presumptuous of me if, in order to appear convincingly objective and down-toearth, I enumerated for you the main sections or prize pieces of a library, if I presented you with their history or even their usefulness to a writer? I, for one, have in mind something less obscure, something more palpable than that what I am really concerned with is giving you some insight into the relationship of a book collector to his possessions, into collecting rather than a collection. For such a man is speaking to you, and on closer scrutiny he proves to be speaking only about himself. Instead, I must ask you to join me in the disorder of crates that have been wrenched open, the air saturated with the dust of wood, the floor covered with torn paper, to join me among piles of volumes that are seeing daylight again after two years of darkness, so that you may be ready to share with me a bit of the mood-it is certainly not an elegiac mood but, rather, one of anticipation which these books arouse in a genuine collector. I cannot march up and down their ranks to pass them in review before a friendly audience. The books are not yet on the shelves, not yet touched by the mild boredom of order. Benjamin died in 1940 having committed suicide at the French–Spanish border while attempting to escape the Nazis. He spent much of his professional life in Paris, where he wrote this essay. In the 1930s he turned to Marxism, partly due to the influence of Bertolt Brecht and partly due to the rise of extreme right-wing politics in Europe. Having been educated in Switzerland he had a short career in the lead up to the Second World War, which saw him carve a niche as a literary critic.
